Though his father raged at the decision, he ultimately assumed a prominent role within this new order, leading the council. As for Claes, he remained a figurehead and rightful heir, but he departed on his own terms, seeking to wander and understand the world beyond before returning to face the trials of the next election.

Claes wandered for years, slipping into different roles—a merchant, then a bartender—while crafting a new identity for himself: Claes Nacre, a name drawn from the lustrous sheen of mother-of-pearl.
